Planning Design Studio completed final design, construction documents, and construction period services for this significant site development project, which had demanding quality, aesthetic, schedule, and budget requirements. The site is approximately nine and one-half acres in size. PDS prepared plans for the layout, grading, planting, car courts, terraces, fountains and reflecting pool. Details for walls, steps, entry gates, and walks were also prepared by PDS.

Key design program elements include a meandering entry drive to a north car court containing a central fountain feature. It serves as the vehicular arrival point to the main entrance. A secondary car court provides access to the garage and provides guest parking. Half of the parking area is comprised of “GrassPave" in order to reduce pavement visibility and storm water runoff.

Outdoor extensions of the residence include a kitchen garden where the family grows vegetables, herbs and cut flowers. It provides a brilliant setting for outdoor entertainment adjacent to a kitchen terrace, which is used for outdoor cooking and relaxation. Parterre gardens – adjacent to a south terrace – provide a space where the family can enjoy a reflecting pool, sculptural elements, roses and other plantings. It has fantastic views to the pool and ornamental pond.

Site construction began in 2009. PDS was tasked with – and succeeded in – ensuring that the project design schedule and budget were met for the August 2010 move-in date.
