Wentzville Parks & Aquatic Center

Wentzville, Missouri

In August 2010, Wentzville voters passed a 1/2 cent Parks retail sales tax. In September, 2011, the City of Wentzville entered into a contract for the planning and design of the project with a multi-disciplinary design team led by Planning Design Studio. The funds generated by the tax beginning January 1, 2011 will be utilized to fund the $20M of design and construction for three new parks. The three parks are Peruque Valley Park, Heartland Park and The Family Aquatic Center. Each park will contain unique characteristics and features.

Peruque Valley Park will include a 4 ball field complex, restrooms, concessions, shelters and parking. There will be a central water feature and bio-detention pond with boardwalk, riparian landscape plantings and natural rock outcroppings. Other improvements will include a perimeter loop trail, meadows and landscape development, picnic areas, a playground and signage.

Heartland Park will include parking, soccer/football fields, restrooms, picnic and shelter features, landscape improvements; a lake, pier and boardwalk with aquatic plantings, and wildlife enhancements. There will be an internal loop trail around the park site.

The Family Aquatic Center will be located directly north of Peine Ridge Elementary School. The Family Aquatic Center will include state-of-the-art aquatic play areas and specialized aquatic features that will provide endless entertainment for visitors. There will be sun deck areas, shade structures, lawn and landscape areas and plenty of parking.

Planning and design activities are underway and will include input from working committees, community input sessions and public presentations. Various phases of the design plans will be completed over the next year. Construction on some facilities could begin in mid-2012 with all construction completed in late 2013. Some of the athletic fields may not be ready for play until the spring of 2014.
