Few park and recreation departments are in the enviable position of completing a community-wide master plan, but the City of Clayton, Missouri did by 2005. Planning Design Studio was hired in May of 2006 to assist the city in developing a new master plan to guide park development into the future.

The final master plan addressed a wide range of topics including new park land acquisition, maintenance and improvements to existing facilities, and trail connectivity development. The Plan provides strategies for meeting Clayton’s recreational needs through the year 2017. It recommends implementation of the ten year plan according to a prioritized and phased strategy, which will bring changes in the city’s recreational opportunities and help to maintain the city’s exceptional quality of life.
