Landmarks Crossing

Alton, Illinois

The revitalization of the Riverfront and Marina District has enabled the city of Alton, Illinois to return to its historic 19th century river town heritage. The comprehensive Master Plan, developed by Planning Design Studio staff, provides for a signature redevelopment of this historic but long-neglected riverfront. Key attractions include marina, excursion boat mooring, river-walk promenade, amphitheater, geyser fountain and pool, pavilions, parks, and pedestrian access walkways to the historic downtown area.

Ultimately the success of the riverfront will be dependent on its connections with the community. A major step toward this accomplishment will be the implementation of a signature three span steel pedestrian bridge, spanning both Landmarks Boulevard and active railroad tracks. Trusted with guiding the aesthetic design of this structure by the City, Planning Design Studio worked with a team of highly skilled design professionals, ensuring both the functional and visual goals of the City were met in a structure which will manifest the community's civic pride, and reestablish its connection to the Mississippi River.
