Laclede’s Landing is a historic district in downtown St. Louis featuring a collection of brick and cast-iron buildings on cobblestone streets along the Mississippi Riverfront.  Planning Design Studio transformed a three-block length of underutilized, automobile-focused road into a dynamic, pedestrian-oriented public realm. The new streetscape improves vehicular circulation and on-street parking while creating a new pedestrian promenade and plaza.  The plaza features artistic sculptures and raised planting beds with a variety of urban trees and colorful perennials.

The improvements to Third Street help to connect this historic district to downtown Saint Louis, while the design’s aesthetic meshes the historic character of the Landing with the contemporary style of the nearby Gateway Arch grounds.
