Major Milestones
Founded in 2006, Planning Design Studio (PDS) was established with the goal of creating innovative, community-focused landscapes that connect people to nature and one another. From its early beginnings in the historic Raeder Place Building at Laclede’s Landing, PDS quickly distinguished itself as an employee-owned firm dedicated to creativity, quality, and accountability.

With a strong foundation in landscape architecture, PDS developed a reputation for excellence in designing parks, greenways, streetscapes, and other public realm spaces. The firm’s early projects helped set the tone for its future—balancing thoughtful design with meaningful community engagement.

​Today, with its office in Maplewood, Missouri, PDS continues to thrive as a collaborative and forward-thinking studio. The team remains committed to shaping places that reflect the character of their communities, support long-term sustainability, and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
A New Vision
In 2021, Planning Design Studio got an entire rebrand, transforming a simple logo into a complex vision of the company and its values. The team played around with the colors, shapes, font styles, and various other elements and eventually settled on this striking logo that not only set new design standards within the company but also has a lot of meaning behind it.
At its core, the logo represents the sun—a vital force in landscape architecture and design. Just as sunlight nurtures growth and sustains life, our work relies on the natural elements to shape environments that thrive. The sun also mirrors our role as designers: shining light on new possibilities, cultivating growth, and fostering connections within communities.
This meaning resonates with the work we do every day—from enhancing parks to meet the needs of local residents, to redefining greenways for safer, more efficient transportation, and beyond. Our logo is more than a symbol; it’s a reminder of our mission to bring life, growth, and vision to the places we serve.
