Planning Design Studio prepared a detailed master plan for visitor experience modifications to the Rhino Habitat located within the River’s Edge area at the Saint Louis Zoo. After a thorough examination of the site along with an evaluation of the project goals and desired outcomes, the design team met with Zoo staff in a charrette-style meeting focused on creating three design alternativesfor realigning the main path and associated modifications to the exhibit area. Additionally, a stormwater evaluation was completed to evaluate anticipated stormwater impacts and identifying potential solutions to be incorporated in the plan. A final plan was then developed using the most desired elements of the three initial plans resulting in a solution that featured an improved visitor experience and numerous benefits to the exhibited animals.
