We are hiring for two new positions with our firm - an Entry Level Landscape Architect and a Landscape Architecture Intern.



Entry Level Landscape Architect

Position Description

Planning Design Studio (PDS) is seeking a full-time Entry Level Landscape Architect/Urban Designer to join our team in St. Louis, Missouri. At PDS you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of project types from master planning to construction document production. We specialize in greenway development; parks and recreation and sustainable streetscape projects in the St. Louis metropolitan area helping to make the region a better place to live, work and play.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of design concepts, site plans, specifications, and cost estimates for land development.

  • Compile and analyze data on site conditions such as location, drainage and structures for environmental reports and planting plans.

  • Prepare graphic representations of proposed plans using hand drawing techniques and computer aided design software.

  • Select appropriate materials for use in landscape design.

  • Collaborate with PDS staff, clients and allied professions related to the project scope.


Skills, Knowledge Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidates should have strong analytical, planning, design, and technical skills.

  • Experience with and proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Word, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), and SketchUp is preferred.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

  • Initiative-taker that enjoys a fast-paced work environment that can contribute to achieving successful project completion.


Required Experience

Recent graduate or up to three years of experience with a degree from an accredited landscape architecture program.


Office Location

Downtown Maplewood, a historic suburb of St. Louis which is home to the Nation's First Green Dining District, and independent shops that create an exciting and livable community.

  • Our firm is currently working in a flexible/hybrid model that allows employees to balance their individual schedules by working from home part-time with a minimum of three days a week in our office.

Internship

Planning Design Studio (PDS) offers students of landscape architecture the opportunity to participate in paid summer and 8-month internship programs at our St. Louis, Missouri office. Successful candidates will participate in current project work and have the opportunity to work with a group of professionals with significant experience in completing a wide range of project types, including master planning through final design and construction documentation.

Our office is located in downtown Maplewood a historic suburb of St. Louis which is home to the Nation's First Green Dining District, and independent shops that create an exciting and livable community. Our firm emphasizes a creative and process-oriented design approach to develop environmentally responsive, sustainable, and exciting community spaces that exceed client expectations.

Selected interns will be paid a competitive salary while they are working and will be given the opportunity to interact with all staff members. Internship responsibilities will include assisting with design conceptualization, site inventory, photography, plan production, plant selection, sketching, perspectives, rendering (computer or hand), take-offs, CAD drafting and other varied tasks. The goal of our intern program is to provide students with an opportunity that challenges them and strengthens their skills.
