A grand opening was held for the new Adaptive Sports Complex at the South County Family YMCA on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 - ST. LOUIS, MO
The Gateway Region YMCA selected Planning Design Studio to lead a team of professionals to design an Adaptive Sports Complex consisting of a Miracle League Baseball Field, an inclusive playground, a soccer field, and a 1/4-mile exercise loop on a portion of their property that currently contains a three (3) baseball fields and a running track. The Miracle League Baseball Field also includes two new buildings: a concession and storage building and a restroom building with 4 individual/family toilet rooms with adult changing tables. A storm water basin is located south of the soccer field and 1/4-mile exercise loop.
The grand opening for the new Adaptive Sports Complex was hosted by the Gateway Region YMCA at the South County Family YMCA in St. Louis, Missouri. The event consisted of a series of speeches that thanked the gracious donors who helped fund this amazing project and gave great insight into what this project means for the community. Paul Goldschmidt of the St. Louis Cardinals was in attendance along with Bill DeWitt III, President of the St. Louis Cardinals and Board Chairman of Cardinals Care; Win Reed, Chairman of the Boniface Foundation; and Tim Helm, President and CEO of the Gateway Region YMCA.
“It is a tremendous honor to be the namesake of this Miracle League Field that will provide the opportunity to play the game I love to those who may not otherwise have the chance,” says Paul Goldschmidt, First Baseman of the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Miracle League Baseball Field was carefully crafted with the needs of youth and adults with disabilities in mind. Its design is reminiscent of Busch Stadium, the home field of Paul Goldschmidt, the player after whom the field is named. This specially designed field allows individuals with disabilities to experience the joy of playing baseball in an inclusive and inspiring environment.
