Cape Girardeau SportsPlex Ribbon Cutting

The City of Cape Girardeau hosted a dedication and ribbon-cutting event for its new SportsPlex facility on May 6, 2017. This state-of-the-art building has two regulation indoor turf fields, six hardwood basketball courts, meeting rooms, and a food court. Planning Design Studio assisted the city with the initial facility feasibility study. The firm’s involvement continued with the preparation of the concept and final construction documents for the outdoor plazas and planting areas. The outdoor spaces feature a main entry plaza with decorative concrete, a small plaza with a serpentine seat wall, and an area reserved for an artistic or commemorative sculpture. The planting areas feature native and ornamental shrubs and trees, perennial flowers, pebble mulch, and small decorative boulders reclaimed from the excavation of the site.
