I-64 Interchange Enhancements

O'Fallon, Illinois

The City of O’Fallon, Illinois is one of the fastest growing cities in southern Illinois with an expected population of 50,000 within the next ten years. In an effort to identify itself as a City of distinction and quality, set apart from surrounding communities, the City of O’Fallon hired PDS to provide Master Planning and Visioning services for beautification of their two I-64 interchanges. PDS was tasked with developing a Gateway Plan that enhances the drivers’ sense of arrival while being mindful of the overall cost implications of highly maintained landscaped areas.

PDS proposed the use of ‘Green Highway’ principles with bioretention swales, wetland restoration, native prairie grass restoration, and on-site wind power generation. Other features of the beautification plan include ponds with rock outcrops and water falls; recommendations for existing vehicular bridge enhancements; arrival signage and landscape plantings.

Encompassing over 65 acres, Interchanges 14 and 16 provide direct links to the City of O’Fallon’s Downtown, adjacent commercial areas and the O’Fallon Family Sports Park.
